Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical
Medicine In response to the 19th-century tropical disease burden in
New Orleans, Tulane University established the first public health
school in the U.S. in 1912. For over a century, the Tulane School
of Public Health and Tropical Medicine has addressed pressing
public health challenges. Thanks to a historic gift from alumna
Celia Scott Weatherhead, the school can expand its vital work and
meet future public health needs. Weatherhead's support will attract
leading faculty and ensure access for top students from diverse
backgrounds, elevating SPHTM to a premier institution in the U.S.
and globally. Position Description The Department of Health Policy
and Management, comprised of 15 faculty members, focuses on health
management and policy research. We prepare a diverse group of
future leaders to improve healthcare delivery, increase access to
care, reduce health disparities, and advance healthcare policy
worldwide. Faculty research in the department spans several
critical areas, including - but not limited to - health insurance,
substance use disorders, telehealth, vaccination policy, diabetes
care, hospital markets, governmental public health, and managed
care in the U.S. The department offers multiple master's programs
and a PhD program in health policy and management. The Department
of Health Policy and Management is seeking tenure-track or tenured
faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to
contribute to the School's strategic initiatives. These initiatives
include: - - - - - -Health Equity Research- Advancing health equity
outcomes, particularly in the South is a key component of this
initiative. The school will continue to strengthen long-standing
ties to the community, with an interest in developing a report on
the status of health equity in the South. Health equity is already
integrated into the curriculum, and a new specialization is being
added to train public health practitioners with in-depth expertise
in this area. -Current projects include Partners for Advancing
Health Equity (P4HE), the Society, Health and Racial Equity Lab
(SHARE), and the Cost of Inequity report. - - - - - - - - - Gulf
South Health Policy Institute - Led by alumnus Charles N. "Chip"
Kahn, a prominent national voice in health policy, this initiative
seeks to establish the premier institute focused on the health
policy issues of the South. The Gulf South Health Policy Institute
will examine and address the issues confronting lawmakers,
practitioners, and the public now and in the future. - - - - - - -
- - Cancer Prevention and Control - Louisiana is ranked 5th in the
nation for all cancer mortality, with an 85-mile stretch along the
Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans representing
some of the highest incidence rates in the world. The Tulane Cancer
Center, led by oncologist Dr. Stefan Grant, is leading the
initiative to drive innovative research and training to address the
cancer crisis in Louisiana and across the Gulf South. Uniquely
positioned to train the next generation of interdisciplinary cancer
researchers to improve the health of our Gulf Coast communities,
Tulane recently finalized a partnership with LCMC Health to expand
comprehensive and specialty care across Southeast Louisiana. - - -
- - - - - - Artificial Intelligence and Data Science - The growing
field of AI and data science presents a tremendous opportunity for
public health innovation. Researchers at Tulane SPHTM are already
planning to house AI and machine learning expertise at the school
and to provide training through symposia and other methods for
current and future practitioners. - - - - - - - - - Infectious
Disease Epidemiology - As public health continues to face
challenges related to infectious diseases, including emerging
pathogens and epidemics, Tulane SPHTM is committed to advancing
research and training in this critical area. Additionally, the
school and department have solidified research partnerships with
local healthcare delivery systems to secure access to vital
healthcare data for ongoing research projects. These partnerships
bring together community-based healthcare sites and nationally
recognized, leading research universities, resulting in
collaborations necessary to advance health in Louisiana and the
region. Qualifications:The ideal candidates will have an earned
doctoral degree in health policy and management, health services
research, economics, sociology, public health, or a related field.
We are looking for applicants who possess strong methodological
skills, a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals,
and teaching experience appropriate to their career stage.
Additionally, we value a demonstrated commitment to diversity,

and sustain a strong program of research with extramural funding to
cover a portion of the applicant's salary. Applicants will be
evaluated based on their achievements to date and their potential
for continued success in funded research, publication, and
